Gratitude
Earlier this week, during a staff meeting conference call, one of my co-workers was talking about a study on gratitude conducted by Robert Emmons at UC Davis. According to research, people who expressed gratitude for 3 things each day were happier and more fulfilled than people who instead focussed on negative things. I’m greatly simplying their work, but that’s the aspect of it that resonated with me.
Given that I have a tendency to dwell on the negative sometimes (after all, in many cases that’s where the humour is – more on that later), I thought it would be a good exercise for me to try and think of 3 things each day that I’m grateful for.
I’ll need to start with the big things; after all, when you keep it up for months and years, pretty soon you’re going to cover the major bases and will be looking to the nooks and crannies of your life for the things you appreciate.
So, today’s list
-
A loving wife
-
A supportive family
-
A good job

this is nice. i should do this too because i have the tendency to react negatively when things do not fall to the right places…. thanks for this post.
